Can't wait to get this thing running and see if it can keep up with my 70 Chevelle SS540. I've been a GM guy all of my life so this mopar stuff is new to me. I can get a factory 5.7 long block here locally for $4300 and I've seen the crate motors for around $5500.Īnother option is the Dodge crate motor but I don't know if it's a drop in replacement. Add that to the cost of all the other parts, chain and gears, gaskets, head bolts, lifters, oil pump and god knows what I may need I could be over $2400 or $2500 real quick. I'm doing some performance upgrades too, otherwise it would probably be more like 3500-4000. He's charging me 4500 for the rebuild & install etc. Machine shop said to rebuild the heads with all new valves, seats, guides and springs could be $1200 to $1400. I have a build going on right now PIE in Delaware. If I fix it I'll be the one to warranty it. My dilemma is should I go ahead and fix what's in there or go with a crate motor or long block? I'll be doing it myself so the plus side with the new motor is I'll have a warranty. We have a large selection of used car parts from 6 locations around the province, including engine. Its got 90K miles and I'm sure took out most of the valves also. Got a great deal on a 2010 R/T that came in shop with a broken timing chain that the customer didn't want to fix.
